The Yonder guide · iPhone & iPad

Use a focus timer to give study time a clear purpose.

A focus app can record the time you set aside. Start by deciding what that time is for. This guide walks through choosing one task, setting up a study session in Yonder, and reviewing what you finished.

What does a focus timer do?

Your phone's clock may be enough when all you need is a timer. If you also want to see time spent on each class or project, a focus app that keeps sessions in separate work areas can help organize that record. In Yonder, you can create areas for mathematics, reading, or a thesis and record sessions under each one.

Time alone does not tell you how much you learned. When reviewing a session, consider the problems you solved, the words you wrote, or the topic you revised alongside the minutes you recorded.

Set up your first study session

  1. Choose one task. Replace “study mathematics” with a clear finish line, such as “retry the five problems I got wrong.” Write it down before starting.
  2. Choose a work area. Create an area for that class or project in Yonder. Keep later sessions in the same area so you can compare your records.
  3. Pick a starting duration. Try a 25-minute session, for example. This is a starting point, not a rule: use a shorter or longer duration to suit the task.
  4. Start the timer and return to the work. Open the materials you need in advance. If notifications distract you, you can separately configure your iPhone's Focus settings.
  5. Review the result. Check the recorded time, consider how much of the task you finished, and choose your next step. You can take a short break before another session.

A sample study plan

Mathematics · a 25-minute trial

Before: Prepare five problems and the notes you need. Select your “Mathematics” work area.

During: Work through the problems in order. Mark where you get stuck and note the missing step.

After: Alongside “25 minutes studied,” write the outcome in your own notes: “Three problems solved; two need a topic review.” Use that to plan the next session.

This is just a starting example. You can adapt the same approach to reading, writing, or language practice.

Focus alone or study with friends

Use the personal timer to work at your own pace. To start together, create a Yonder focus room and share its six-character code with friends. Each person can choose their own task before you begin, then discuss what they finished afterward.

You can start the personal timer without an account. Online rooms and cross-device sync require sign-in and an internet connection. Explore the features on the Yonder home page.
